Who We Are
Erick and Jessica Smith are both Purdue University Graduates; Erick in Engineering and Jessica in Biology. We moved to our current property in 2000 and enjoy raising our growing family (now 5 children) on the farm. In 2007 Erick returned to Purdue University to seek a Masters in Building and Construction Management with his thesis focusing on sustainability in construction. This process led us to the world of grant writing. We discovered we could make our dreams come true with help from grants. With this support, we now represent a growing number of farms, coming together to co-market sustainable farm goods. We are small enough to care about each and every family as a farm. Through the alliance, we are large enough to supply your commercial, school, or wholesale needs for good, locally raised foods. It’s our passion!

Aaron Worden joined us on our property in 2008 to help expand our operation and product line. He brought experience from several sustainable farms. . In November of 2009 we expanded through the purchase of a processing division and added 5 employees, Mike our expert meat cutter with 10 years of experience, Kendra and Tori who both share time in the office and in the packaging room, Franciso and Martin who both round out our staff through good animal handling and packaging experience. With our many combined years of experience, we look forward to supplying your families food, grown and processed the only way we would grow for ourselves. Though we are not yet certified we do use organic methods.
What We Believe In
Local Food Network
We believe in creating food security by ensuring that we support local producers. Our chicks and feed are produced locally. We are currently working with other local growers to expand our sustainable farm offerings while ensuring that you know who is producing your food.
Nutrition
Higher vitamin/mineral content. Lower fat. Increased CLA’s and Omega 3’s can be found in grass fed meats.
Taste
Our food has a rich taste; meat products produced in factory settings taste like cardboard compared to ours.
Naturally Raised
We take pride in being able to raise healthy animals without the conventional use of growth hormones, antibiotics, and other additives. Animals thrive without these - and you will too!
Land Stewardship
Diversity, top soil regeneration, and the overall healing and rejuvenation of the land.
Family Friendly
Our children work and play along side us, learning as they do.
Customer Service
We hope to build many friendships as we get to know everyone supporting the farm. Please include any suggestions or areas of interest with your order.
This Old Farm Meats and Processing a division of This Old Farm, Inc was added on November 13, 2009 to expand the offering of locally raised meats and further support sustainable farming through the addition of natural meat processing services from poultry processing, to nitrate free pork cures, deer processing, longer dry age times for grass fed beef. Through these services and through alliances being formed with other local sustainable growers we wish to better serve our existing customers and expand into servicing commercial markets. We look forward to serving your meat needs and local produce needs (to be added) whether they be for your family, university, or corporation.
