Sale of raw milk is not legal in Indiana. Because some desire to have and drink raw milk we offer boarding of your goat or cow at our farm. We take care of helping you find an animal and of boarding and milking your animal in exchange for a monthly fee. Cow Shares
The initial purchase of the 14th of a cow, representing 1 share, is roughly $100. You then pay for upkeep of your animal at a rate of $24/month. You pick up the quantity milked at your designated milking, morning or evening on your assigned day. (There is flexibility on when you pick up from a self service area. It does not have to be on the same day as we understand life is hectic.) What this means, is there is a variation through the season on how much you will pick up. We are estimating that each share is roughly 1 gallon/week. During certain seasons you will recieve more and possibly less at the end of lactation. Please call or email for further details. We would love to get you name on a waiting list as soon as possible as we are searching for quality grass fed cows. Our dairy cows are 100% grass fed recieveing only kelp and mineral supplements.
Goat Shares
Goat milk is looked to by many for its healing properties. It has anti-inflammatory properties. When cow milk is not tolerated, many find great benefit to access to raw goats milk.
A share of a goat is handled much the same way as the cow share accept it is a herd share as opposed to a animal share. The milk from each milking is pooled in one bucket and then distributed. You pick up the quantity milked at your designated milking, morning or evening on your assigned day. (There is flexibility on when you pick up from a self service area. It does not have to be on the same day as we understand life is hectic. We due recomend that you drink goats milk as fresh as possible for optimum flavor. If you think you don’t like goats’ milk it probably wasn’t fresh.) What all this means, is there is a variation through the season on how much you will pick up. Our dairy goats are fed high quality forage, and limited organic grains, as well as kelp and minerals. Goats have a high mineral need and need some variety in their diet to cover their needs while keeping them healthy and producing well.
Each animal is expected to be dry for two months of the year. During this time you pay a dry board upkeep of $24/month for a cow share and $30/month for a goat share. Many freeze milk during the time when we have extra to cover this time period. Others have shares in different animals to ensure a year round supply.
We understand the time and commitment involved in animal ownership and obtaining raw milk. We strive to keep the risk low and the benefit high but with all natural systems some years bring bounty and some years leave us waiting for more to come. Over the course of time, we believe there is no better investment, than the one of farm and health. Good food brings good health to you and the environment.
